Workshops and Tuition

2003, July 18

This seminar was an opportunity for me to present some of my ideas about the structure of the symbols of change. Attendance was mainly by invitation, and the audience all had some experience with the Yi Jing.

The presentation covered the Boolean lattice arrangement of the hexagrams, and showed how the structures could be developed starting from a single line, and working up through bigrams and trigrams, then quadragrams and pentagrams, finally to hexagrams. The hexagram lattice was explored, demonstrating how it defined relationships between hexagrams in terms of the distribution of yin and yang.

The seminar concluded by looking at the internal structure of hexagrams, suggesting some novel interpretations for the meaning of individual lines.
