2004, March 14This workshop was held in the library of Edinburgh's Salisbury Centre. The Salisbury Centre is the longest established holistic centre in Edinburgh, promoting spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing since 1973. I was particularly pleased to be facilitating a workshop there, as it was the first place where I studied Taiji on moving to Edinburgh. The workshop was divided into two sessions. The morning session ran from 10am to 12:30 and introduced the basic concepts of the Book of Change for people with little of no previous experience. This session began with some general and historical background, before investigating the philosophical foundations of the Book of Change, and then moving on to the practical use of the book. By the end of the morning everyone was comfortable using the traditional coin method for divination. The afternoon session ran from 1:30 to 5pm and looked in more depth at the process of divination. This explored some of the ideas described in my paper The Nature of Divination, looking in particular at the processes that connect together the Yijing, the person asking the question, and the circumstances that have given rise to the question. |
