Review of Sung: Appendix - Yi Symbols as Imaginary Gauges

This section presents some auxilliary diagrams. It is a nice idea to express the symbols of the Yi as "imaginary gauges" or, perhaps, measures of the imagination. Sung provides no discussion of these diagrams, but it is interesting to present two of them here and briefly consider their relevance to contemporary work.

Here we see a very similar progression to that which Higgins goes through, developing his polynomial characterization of the trigram space.

Next, consider the following figure.

This is the same basic construction used by Hook [Hoo80, pp119-120].  This kind of symbolisation is an excellent way to visualise how yin and yang flow through a cycle of change.
